AiM’s own MyChron software is Race Studio 3, a free download for 64-bit Windows, and its free RaceStudio 3 app for iPhone and Android. Other tools read the same .xrk files: PURPL and Purple Sector in a browser, and phone apps such as Tenth Finder and Kart Track that add AI coaching. Choose by the computer or phone you use, and whether you want a coach.

Which one suits me?
- You have a Windows PC: Race Studio 3. It’s free, and it sets up the logger as well as analysing sessions.
- You want to look at a session at the track on your phone: AiM’s RaceStudio 3 app is free on iPhone and Android. Tenth Finder and Kart Track also pull sessions off the logger and add AI coaching.
- You use a Mac or a Chromebook: Race Studio 3 needs Windows. PURPL and Purple Sector open the
.xrkin a browser. See Race Studio 3 on a Mac. - You also record a car or a bike, or use another logger: Purple Sector opens AiM, Alfano, RaceBox, VBOX and phone-app files in the same view. PURPL is built around MyChron files.
- You want a spreadsheet: Race Studio 3 exports CSV on Windows; Purple Sector exports every channel and lap as one CSV in the browser. See XRK to CSV.
Is there a MyChron app for iPhone?
Yes. AiM’s RaceStudio 3 app is free on the App Store (iOS 18 or later) and Google Play. AiM’s listing says it manages AiM devices, downloads sessions and shows lap times, charts and track trajectories, and its latest notes add a split report with best theoretical and rolling laps. AiM’s MyChron 6 page names the app for data download and cloud storage over Wi-Fi. The listings don’t name which other loggers it supports.
Getting the file off the logger
A MyChron saves each session as an .xrk file (or the compressed .xrz), and Race Studio 3, PURPL and Purple Sector all read it. A MyChron 6 downloads by cable, Wi-Fi or its Mini USB drive; a MyChron 5 or 5S over Wi-Fi. On a Mac or PC without Race Studio, Purple Sector Link downloads a MyChron 5, 5S or 6 over the logger’s own Wi-Fi. It has been tried with a MyChron 5 on a Mac, where it is slow, and not yet on a real logger from Windows or Linux. See open MyChron .xrk files.
Questions
What software do I need for a MyChron?
AiM’s Race Studio 3 is the official software. It’s a free download for 64-bit Windows and handles setup, downloads and analysis. To only analyse the session, any tool that reads .xrk files works, including browser tools on a Mac.
Is there a MyChron app for iPhone or Android?
Yes. AiM’s RaceStudio 3 app is free on both. Tenth Finder (iPhone) and Kart Track (iPhone and iPad) also read MyChron sessions and add AI coaching.
Is there an alternative to Race Studio 3?
For analysis, yes: PURPL and Purple Sector open MyChron files in a browser, and several phone apps read them too. Race Studio 3 is still needed to configure the logger itself.
Can I analyse MyChron data on a Mac?
Yes, in a browser: PURPL and Purple Sector both open .xrk files with nothing to install. Race Studio 3 itself runs only on 64-bit Windows.
What does an AI karting coach do with MyChron data?
It reads the session and points to where you lost time, then suggests what to change. Tenth Finder lists late throttle, over-braking and poor exits; Purple Sector names the corner that cost the most and one thing to try there. Check whether its advice is based on recorded channels or worked out from GPS.
